How Important is it to Study God’s Word

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” When I read the Bible I like to find ways to apply it to my life. I find that this verse is particularly easy to apply! It’s as simple as it sounds: God’s Word is a lamp for our feet, a light that shines on our path. It shows all of the dangers in our way, and He helps us get past those obstacles.
That’s why reading the Bible and actually studying it helps us with our daily lives.
I used to read a chapter on occasion. Not daily, but fairly regularly. It felt good, but I didn’t get much out of it other than some favorite Bible verses. The past two years I have been going to a young adults Bible study and I absolutely love the way we study the Bible there!
Lately I’ve been trying to put a little more effort into my personal Bible reading so that I get more out of it and retain more of what I read. I find that it is easier to apply it to my life when I read it slowly and write down my thoughts as I read it. I try harder to figure out what a certain set of verses are saying and how the world (and myself) can use that information today.
If you follow me on Instagram you will often see me sharing my thoughts about what I’ve read or heard on my stories. I do that to keep it more fresh in my mind, as well as to let others see what I saw/heard.
I absolutely love feedback, so if you read a certain chapter and see things in a totally different light than me I would love to hear from you! I’ve learned that I see things very simply, so when others, who see things more complex, mention what they learned I find it very fascinating. And of course it is always encouraging to me when someone saw what I saw, or was able to see something because I mentioned it.
Anyways, back to the verse.
It is very important that we allow God’s Word to show the way that we should go. By reading and studying His Word it makes it so much easier to live our lives the way He wants us to.
It keeps us focused on Him in our busy lives.
It helps us be more kind and loving and humble to those around us!
It also helps us feel better about ourselves. More at peace with ourselves, because we can be sure that even though we sin and do things that hurt God, He is still there to forgive us and pick us up when we fall. He still loves us and always will!
Studying the Bible – and not just reading it like a book, is what will strengthen our faith in Him. It’s easier to trust Him when we know He is there, isn’t it?
Studying the Bible does that for me. It refreshes my mind to focus better on Him.
Some days I put it off for far too long. It’s something that should be one of the very first things I do when I get up in the morning.
Sometimes I think that I just don’t have time for it. But then I am reminded of this: If God is the most important thing in the entire universe, then why wouldn’t you make time for Him – nothing else matters but Him!
My challenge to you today is to imagine studying the Bible like eating a meal or drinking water. Your body NEEDS it. You can’t live without it. Imagining that makes it look so much different, doesn’t it? Suddenly, just like eating and drinking to keep your body healthy and active, you desire to study the Bible as well.
We all have time for our needs. Let God be the Number One.
Bye for now, have a wonderful day!
